On Saturday, Oscar Piastri qualified behind Max Verstappen and teammate Lando Norris for the Dutch GP. The 23-year-old Australian fell just short of securing a one-two finish for McLaren. Despite this, Piastri remains positive about his performance and hopes to make up a few places during Sunday’s race.
Oscar Piastri’s Qualifying Round Recap
“I didn’t do well enough,” Oscar Piastri summarized his last qualifying round at Zandvoort. While both McLarens seemed to be the fastest throughout the weekend, Piastri couldn’t outperform Max Verstappen on Saturday. “The beginning of my round was very good, but in the second half, everything went wrong,” the Australian explained. “All in all, it’s disappointing that I’m not a bit higher.”
Remaining Positive Despite Challenges
Nevertheless, Oscar Piastri remains positive. He and Lando Norris – who ended up on pole on Saturday thanks to an incredibly fast final sector – can be satisfied with the upgrades McLaren brought to Zandvoort. “The car is still very good, so hopefully we can collect a few trophies tomorrow,” he continued. “The upgrades are working properly, and especially in this incredibly tight field, it’s nice that we’re still doing so well at the forefront.”
Looking Forward to the Race
Will he also compete for the win tomorrow? “It’s certainly not impossible, the pace in the long runs is very positive,” said Piastri. “Tomorrow, I hope to make up a few places at least,” he concluded with a grin. For the McLaren driver, this is only the second time he will be racing in the Grand Prix at Zandvoort. Last year, he started from the eighth place.
