Oscar Piastri, the Australian racing driver, isn’t feeling the pressure to secure a victory as quickly as possible. His teammate, Lando Norris, crossed the finish line first in Miami earlier this year. However, Piastri doesn’t feel the need to replicate his teammate’s success immediately. For him, a victory at this point might not feel as euphoric.

McLaren celebrated a victory this year with Lando Norris in Miami, and Oscar Piastri hopes his turn is coming soon. The Australian has already finished second twice, in Monaco and Austria, but he would love to stand a step higher on the podium soon. “It’s been a close call a few times,” Piastri shares.

A Grand Prix Victory: An Incredible Achievement but No Pressure

Piastri believes that a Grand Prix victory would be ‘incredible’, but he doesn’t feel the pressure to achieve this feat soon. “There isn’t really, I think, the pressure or the urgency (to win a race),” explains the man from Melbourne. “Many people say ‘solve this problem as soon as possible’ or something similar. For me, that’s what a victory would feel like now.”

The Australian doesn’t mind that he hasn’t been able to secure a victory yet. Piastri thinks that the moment would have only felt like a relief, not euphoric. “Especially in Austria, but also at Silverstone, I was disappointed that I missed (the victory). However, it wasn’t from the perspective of ‘damn, I would have liked to have thrown that off me’. It was more like we had a chance to win an F1 race and we didn’t succeed.”

‘Something I Dreamed of as a Child’

However, it seems that a race victory for the young Australian is only a matter of time. Piastri is already dreaming a little about the moment. “Of course, it will be very special,” says the McLaren driver. “The season is so compact and fast that I honestly think that the (euphoric) feeling will probably fade quite quickly, as soon as you move on to the next weekend. But it would be very special and it’s something I dreamed of as a child.”
