The Alpine racing team announced on Saturday that Estonian Paul Aron, who is currently competing in Formula 2, will be their reserve driver next season.
Paul Aron will be Alpine’s reserve driver next year. The French team announced this on Saturday morning. The young Estonian (20 years old) is currently involved in the Formula 2 Championship. With seven podium finishes, he is in fourth place in the standings. He will start from pole position at the Qatar GP on Sunday. At Alpine, Aron will replace Australian Jack Doohan (who will be one of the two Alpine drivers next year along with Pierre Gasly, as Esteban Ocon is moving to Haas).
“Formula 1 is currently undergoing a generational change, as evidenced by the many young drivers coming into the discipline and making their mark,” commented Flavio Briatore, executive advisor to Alpine. “We believe that Paul is one of the best talents and we are looking forward to seeing him become a Formula 1 driver.“
“It is clear (that Alpine) is an ideal place for any young driver and I am very happy that Flavio and Oliver (Oakes, the team director) have given me this opportunity,” Paul Aron declared. “I am eager to start working and to continue my career in motorsport.“
