Alpine has announced the successor to Jack Doohan as the reserve driver for the French team. Formula 2 driver Paul Aron is the chosen one. The young Estonian will take over the Australian’s duties when Doohan makes his Formula 1 debut as a full-time driver for Alpine in 2025.
The 20-year-old Paul Aron is currently racing in Formula 2, where he is in fourth place in the championship. The Estonian-born Aron has already reached the podium seven times in the feeder series and took pole position for the penultimate race of the Formula 2 season in Qatar.
“It’s incredibly special to join the Alpine team. It’s clear that this is a great place for any young driver and I’m very happy that Flavio (Briatore, ed.) and Oliver (Oakes, ed.) have given me this opportunity,” the young driver thanks the advisor and the team boss of the team, in the official press release. “I’m looking forward to really getting to work and continuing my career path in motorsport.”
Generational Change
Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore is also looking forward to Aron’s arrival next year. “We are very pleased that Paul is joining Alpine as our reserve driver. There is currently a generational change taking place in Formula 1, as we see with the many young drivers making their entrance into the sport and making an impact. We believe that Paul is one of the best talents and we look forward to developing him into an F1 driver.”
Indeed, in 2025 several new faces will be on the grid, with no less than four rookies making their debut in the premier class. Gabriel Bortoleto, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Jack Doohan, and Oliver Bearman will all be in the Formula 1 field as full-time drivers for the first time in 2025.
