Oscar Piastri has signed a multi-year contract extension with McLaren. The news was announced just before the Australian Grand Prix, the opening round of the Formula 1 season and the Australian’s home race. “This reaffirms the long-term stability of the McLaren F1 Team in its pursuit of further world championships.”
“I am very proud to continue representing this legendary team for many more years,” said Oscar Piastri.
Oscar joined the team in 2023 with a multi-year contract, which was quickly extended later that year to 2026. In 2020, he won the Formula 3 championship, followed by the Formula 2 championship the next year, before entering Formula 1 in 2023 as a replacement for Daniel Ricciardo in the papaya-colored McLaren.
Long-term Stability
In his first season in the premier class of motorsport, he won a sprint race and finished on the podium at the Grand Prix of Japan and Qatar. Last season, in 2024, the 23-year-old Australian won the Grand Prix of Hungary and Azerbaijan, in addition to podium finishes in Monaco, Austria, Belgium, Monza, Singapore, and Qatar, as well as a Sprint victory in Qatar. He was the only driver to complete every racing round of the 2024 season and finished fourth in the drivers’ championship, narrowly behind Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
“Today’s announcement, along with the multi-year contract extensions of CEO Zak Brown, Team Principal Andrea Stella, driver Lando Norris, and other senior team members, reaffirms the long-term stability of the McLaren F1 Team in its pursuit of further world championships.”
