Just a few more nights to go and then the racing action will commence in Melbourne! This year, the Australian coastal town is the setting for the opening race of the Formula 1 season. As if that’s not exciting enough, there’s also a forecast for rain during the Grand Prix. Local hero Oscar Piastri warns that we should take the weather forecast for the Australian GP with a grain of salt.
In this anniversary year, Formula 1 returns to an old tradition – for the first time since 2019, the season will kick off at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne. The Australian GP promises to be an interesting power struggle right from the start, not least because of the crazy weather forecast. The latest predictions point to scorching heat during the qualifiers and rain during the Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri, who is racing a home race in Melbourne, wants to caution Formula 1 fans; the weather in Australia is incredibly unpredictable.
Sky Sports asked the 23-year-old McLaren driver about the bizarre weather forecast this week. “Well, who knows,” he responded dryly. “We’ll have to wait and see what the weather will do. Saturday seems to be boiling hot for now and they’re predicting rain for Sunday. But on the other hand, I know Melbourne a bit; it could completely turn around.” Piastri admitted that a rain race could provide some extra entertainment. “If it actually becomes a wet race, it promises to be even more exciting. But seeing is believing,” he concluded with a wink.
