Alpine racer Pierre Gasly was disqualified a few hours after the Azerbaijan GP qualification. The FIA announced the decision after a thorough investigation of the amount of fuel consumed. As a result, the Frenchman will start from the back in Baku.
Shortly after the qualification on Saturday afternoon, it became clear that Gasly was facing disqualification. An investigation into a possible violation of the fuel supply followed. This supply is measured by a fuel-flow meter. Based on the data from this, it was found that Gasly’s Alpine had exceeded the maximum supply. According to the regulations, the Frenchman was subsequently removed from the results, meaning he will start from the twentieth position.
Gasly’s disqualification means that among others, Lando Norris moves up a spot on the grid. The Brit, the main challenger to Max Verstappen in the championship race, had a poor qualification. He finished seventeenth in it. However, due to Gasly’s penalty, Norris will start the race from P16 in Baku.
