Pierre Gasly Renews Contract with Alpine Through 2025 Amid Team Changes and Search for New Teammate

June 27th, 2024, 8:41 AM

Pierre Gasly has extended his contract with Alpine, as announced by the French racing team on Thursday. The 28-year-old driver is currently in his second year with the team. Thanks to a new contract, Gasly will remain in Enstone until after 2025. Alpine is still looking for a replacement for teammate Esteban Ocon, who will not be getting a new deal for the upcoming season.

There was a question of whether Pierre Gasly would be interested in extending his contract with Alpine. The French team seemed defeated at the start of the season – Gasly and Ocon were trailing for a long time in a painfully slow A524. The driver from Rouen admitted to being active in the transfer market, but has chosen to continue his collaboration with his current employer.

“I feel very much at home within this team,” Gasly said in a press release. “The plan was always to build a long-term project. It hasn’t always been easy on the track lately, but I still have confidence in this team. I am happy with the recent changes and the hard work being done. Alpine has a lot of potential,” concludes Pierre Gasly. One of these changes is the reappointment of former team boss Flavio Briatore. The controversial Italian has been given an advisory role within the organization.

Future Teammate

Bruno Famin is also delighted about the new collaboration with Pierre Gasly. “He is a very experienced driver and proves time and time again that he has a lot of potential,” says the team boss. “In addition, he is a good ambassador for Alpine. We can now start focusing on our ambitions. As for his future teammate, we are taking our time. There are plenty of good options.”

The Australian test driver Jack Doohan is leading the race for the second seat, although WEC driver Mick Schumacher is also a serious contender. Both are expected at Circuit Paul Ricard soon for a few test laps with Alpine.
