The third race of the current season is just around the corner! The Japanese Grand Prix is set to take place this weekend – a favorite among both fans and drivers, not least because of the fantastic Suzuka Circuit and the enthusiastic Japanese supporters. Moreover, the weather forecast also promises to play a significant role in this year’s GP of Japan. Did someone say rain race?
During the first two Grands Prix of the new anniversary year, we were already treated to a spectacular rain race in Australia and a somewhat dull, dry race in China. The question is what the weather will do during the upcoming Grand Prix in Japan. Even without precipitation, the Suzuka International Racing Course guarantees plenty of action on the track, although the weather gods may well be kind to us Formula 1 fans.
Weather Forecast for the GP of Japan
Japan, the land of the rising sun? While it is still very pleasant in Suzuka this week, it promises to become increasingly grey on and around the circuit towards the weekend. On Friday, when the first free practice sessions are held, it is still reasonably sunny and the temperature will be around 14 to 17 degrees Celsius. It should also remain dry during the first sessions on the circuit.
On Saturday, when the qualification is scheduled, it becomes less comfortable in Japan. The cloud cover increases and the temperature will not exceed 16 degrees Celsius. Moreover, precipitation is forecasted, although the chance of rain is currently only 10 percent. During the Grand Prix on Sunday, the weather finally turns even more. With a maximum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, it becomes slightly warmer, although it could also rain all day in Suzuka. The chance of precipitation is currently as high as 85 percent! Of course, this doesn’t guarantee anything for Max Verstappen and his colleagues; the weather can change quickly after all.
