On Friday, Christian Horner and Red Bull unveiled the groundbreaking RB17, a hypercar designed by mastermind Adrian Newey. This beast, equipped with a 1000 horsepower V10 engine that can reach up to 15,000 RPM, is set to provide 50 lucky owners with the ultimate Formula 1 experience. The RB17 represents ‘everything that Formula 1 no longer stands for.’
Visitors at the Goodwood Festival of Speed were given the first glimpse of Red Bull’s latest masterpiece on Friday. Christian Horner and Adrian Newey pulled the cover off the RB17 at this English motorsport festival. According to Horner, this exclusive hypercar is packed with all the features that modern Formula 1 lacks. “This is everything the sport no longer stands for,” he told Autocar.
Red Bull’s RB17: A Beast Unleashed
“There are no FIA regulations and no budget caps,” proudly stated Horner. “Adrian Newey has gone all out and this is the result. You can really see the influences of the different Formula 1 generations.”
According to Horner, the RB17 has so much performance ‘that even Max Verstappen would have trouble with it’.
The RB17: Not Street Legal
Perhaps it’s just as well that the vehicle can only be used on the track for now – the RB17 is not street legal. “We did that on purpose,” said Horner. “Red Bull is not a car manufacturer. But if someone wants to make the car street legal, there are undoubtedly possibilities.”
Customers could, for example, turn to the British company Lanzante. The company is known for converting track cars from McLaren and Aston Martin, among others.
Potential Racing Classes for the RB17
Horner is open to participating in certain racing classes with the RB17, although he doesn’t yet know where the hypercar should end up. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is an option, according to the team boss. “The Valkyrie (Aston Martin’s hypercar) is participating in Le Mans next year,” said Horner. “If that works, it would be fantastic to introduce the RB17 there.”
