Red Bull Dominates F1 Championships but Leads in Unexpected Category: The Damage Championship

June 12th, 2024, 5:00 PM

It’s no surprise that Red Bull, led by Max Verstappen, is at the top of both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. However, there’s another championship where the team is leading, albeit one they might not be as proud of: the damage championship.

Red Bull’s Formula 1 team started this year off strong, and all signs pointed to the Austrian outfit repeating their 2023 season’s success. However, the competition is rapidly catching up, making it less certain that the team will win every race. Yet, Red Bull still comfortably leads the championship rankings for both drivers and constructors.

In the drivers’ championship, Max Verstappen is leading with 194 points, followed by Charles Leclerc with 138 points. In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull is on top with 301 points, followed by Ferrari with 252 points. In the infamous damage championship, it’s Sergio Pérez who tops the list. The estimated damage the Mexican driver has accumulated so far this season stands at $2,769,000. Alexander Albon is not far behind, having cost Williams an additional $2,270,750.

It’s worth noting that Pérez’s total was significantly increased by the start crash in Monaco.
