Red Bull is set to deploy Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar for the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix. The 19-year-old Red Bull junior will temporarily replace Sergio Pérez in the RB20, allowing the team to fulfill their rookie obligations for 2024. Hadjar, a promising Franco-Algerian talent, currently holds the second position in the Formula 2 championship.
Hadjar’s Third Free Practice Session
This marks the third time Isack Hadjar will participate in a free practice session. Last year, he was called up by Visa RB (then AlphaTauri) during the race weekend in Mexico. Red Bull also utilized his skills during the weekend in Abu Dhabi. Hadjar is in his second season with Campos Racing in Formula 2, having finished in fourteenth place in the championship last year.
Red Bull’s Second Rookie Deployment
This is the second time Red Bull has deployed a rookie during a free practice session. In Japan, Ayumu Iwasa spent an hour in the RB20. However, Hadjar won’t be the only rookie in Silverstone this weekend. Argentine Franco Colapinto will be in action for Williams, and Oliver Bearman will return to Haas, having recently secured a contract with the American team.
Impact on Sergio Pérez
For Sergio Pérez, this means less time in his car before qualifying for the British Grand Prix. This is a bold move, considering Pérez’s performance has been lackluster compared to his teammate in recent weeks. Even in Austria, the Mexican driver didn’t manage to finish higher than seventh place.
