Formula 1 is popular, and the demand for individual Grands Prix is greater than ever. South Africa is eager to return to the Formula 1 calendar and has even initiated a process to obtain F1 accreditation. Red Bull has already visited the historic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa.
In a new video from the Austrian team, former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard is seen taking a ride around the Kyalami circuit. The last Grand Prix was held at the South African circuit in 1993. Since then, no Formula 1 race has been held on the African continent.
The Red Bull video shows Coulthard in an RB7 making the African circuit unsafe, much to the shock of the security present. South African Red Bull athlete Samkeliso ‘SamSam’ Thubane is also seen in the video. Red Bull hopes that the clip will “bring F1 closer to fans around the world and give South Africa a new boost for its motorsport ambitions.”
