With a tenth-place finish in the Indycar race in Madison, Rinus ‘Veekay’ van Kalmthout continues to perform well. The 23-year-old driver from Hoofddorp finished in the top-10 for the fourth consecutive race. However, a victory was not in the cards for the lead driver of Ed Carpenter Racing.

‘Veekay’ started twelfth in the race on the circuit near the American city of St. Louis. The Dutchman thus gained two places compared to the start. He watched as Josef Newgarden won, after a tumultuous race with five cautions and several incidents. Polesitter Scott McLaughlin finished second. Reigning champion and points leader Alex Palou came in fourth. He made good progress as his closest competitor, Will Power, dropped out, making Colton Herta the new pursuer.

Veekay’s Progress in the Season

As the season draws to a close – with only four races left – ‘Veekay’ is increasingly finding his groove in his fourth year in the Indycar class. Perhaps a surprise is still in store; last season, he achieved his best results towards the end of the season. Meanwhile, the desired spot in the top ten of the championship is becoming more and more within reach: he is currently ranked twelfth.
