Franco Colapinto continues to impress in his debut Formula 1 season. The Argentine driver joined midway through the season and has never finished lower than twelfth place in the races since then. Moreover, Colapinto also competed against Lewis Hamilton during the sprint race in São Paulo. Team boss James Vowles is pleased that his driver has showcased his skills so well.
The Argentine driver has been making a significant impression since his debut at the Italian Grand Prix. Colapinto has not finished any race, including the sprint race in Brazil, lower than twelfth place. This performance has left team boss James Vowles overjoyed.
“When we signed Franco, it was based on the fact that he was incredibly talented, and it’s typical for teams to give such drivers a reasonably long contract,” Vowles tells Sky Sports F1. “What I said in the press conference, I say now too. We are fortunate that Franco has performed incredibly well.”
Defending Against Hamilton
The Williams driver did encounter Lewis Hamilton on the track during the shortened race in São Paulo, but according to team boss Vowles, this was the perfect opportunity for Colapinto to showcase his skills. “He did incredibly well in the race again (on Saturday). Defending against Lewis, one of the toughest opponents there is. And from that perspective, I think the world can see, and it’s a great reward for him, that he is exceptional. Other teams really want to get the chance to work with him.”
Colapinto will have to make way for Carlos Sainz at Williams in 2025, but Vowles has already revealed that he is working hard to place the young Argentine with another team.
