From the grill to the grid! On Tuesday, the Sauber team unveiled a special livery for the upcoming Japanese GP. The usually venom-green C45 has been given a unique steak-coloured scheme for this third round. In a nod to main sponsor Stake, the car looks like a raw piece of meat. It’s clear this is an April Fool’s joke; the chances of a ‘Wagyu-wagon’ actually starting this weekend are slim.
On Tuesday, Sauber shared an animated video of the C45 in a new, striking colour scheme. The steak design looks somewhat macabre, but it is undoubtedly an eye-catching livery. It is expected to remain an April Fool’s joke, and drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto are likely to appear on the grid this weekend with their usual green racers.
Other Formula 1 teams are indeed coming to Suzuka this weekend with a special colour scheme. Haas already unveiled a special sakura design, and Red Bull presented a white version of the RB21 on Tuesday. Quite different from the colours of animal food. In the past, there have been liveries in motorsport with a nod to meat. For example, the famous Pink Pig livery of Porsche’s Le Mans team refers to a butcher’s diagram of a pig.
