What’s next for Sergio Pérez after his departure from Red Bull? The Mexican driver previously stated that he was unsure, but according to his father, Antonio Pérez Garibay, there’s one racing class where we might see the Mexican on the grid.

Last December, Sergio Pérez was informed, after a disappointing final season with Red Bull, that he need not return to Melbourne. The Mexican has been replaced by Liam Lawson and, as a result, will not be on the grid in 2025. According to Pérez’s father, Antonio Pérez Garibay, his son is considering debuting in an entirely new racing class.

Formula E

“Formula E is a category that has existed for eleven years and is still expanding,” Pérez Garibay tells Marca. “Now it’s the second-best category and in five years it will be the most important. Watch out, we might see Checo Perez racing here. That wouldn’t be a problem.”

The Formula E has been raced since 2012 and is the only racing class with fully electrically powered cars. Should Pérez switch to Formula E, the Mexican would be up against Dutch drivers Nyck de Vries and Robin Frijns, among others.

No Plans Yet

Pérez himself previously stated that he does not yet know what the next step in his career is. “My priority is to enjoy myself. To do things I haven’t done yet, and to be with my family,” said the former Red Bull driver. “In the next six months, I will make a decision about the next step in my career. It’s too early to say whether I plan to return to Formula 1.”
