Sergio Pérez is optimistic about the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Despite Red Bull’s relatively poor performance on various street circuits this year, the Mexican driver is confident that his team can deliver impressive results in Baku. Pérez also believes that the subsequent street race in Singapore presents opportunities for his team, which must fiercely defend its constructor’s title against McLaren’s challenges.

During the current season, Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez have been outperformed several times on the notorious street circuits of the Formula 1 calendar. The RB20, which hasn’t claimed a victory since the Spanish Grand Prix, seems to struggle on such tracks. The Red Bull car has left much to be desired in recent months. However, Pérez remains hopeful for the upcoming two races; both the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the Singapore Grand Prix are on the horizon.

Addressing Balance Issues

“At this moment, with the package we have now, Baku and Singapore should be two of our best circuits,” said Sergio Pérez to the press in Azerbaijan. “As long as we can somewhat resolve the balance issues, we can really compete again.” Pérez has previously impressed by the Caspian Sea; with two victories, the 34-year-old driver still holds the record at the Baku City Circuit.

“The confidence is certainly high here, but at the same time, I know that what you have done in the past does not matter,” he added. “This is a whole new challenge and I really hope that I can find the right balance, because on such circuits you need a lot of confidence. If that succeeds, it could just become a very nice weekend.”
