Sergio Pérez bid farewell to Red Bull in 2024. After a disappointing season, the Mexican’s new contract was dissolved. For now, the chances seem slim that the 35-year-old star will return to the grid. However, according to former team boss Günther Steiner, there are possibilities. For instance, the new Formula 1 team of Cadillac could benefit from Sergio Pérez’s experience.

Automotive giant Cadillac, through its parent company General Motors, is introducing its own Formula 1 team from 2026. For the first two years, the Americans, like Haas, will use Ferrari engines before developing their own power source in 2028. Günther Steiner knows that competing with established teams is not easy. The former team boss therefore thinks that Cadillac could show interest in an experienced driver like Sergio Pérez.

Potential One-Year Contract?

“A team like Cadillac needs someone with experience,” Steiner declared this week. “Checo has raced for several teams over many years. He knows how it works and could help them get off to a good start. They could offer him a one-year contract. That would be much better than relying on outdated rookies. At the same time, it would be a great opportunity for Checo.”

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has also indicated that Pérez could be an option for Cadillac. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Daniel Ricciardo goes to Cadillac,” Horner responded to TalkSPORT in December. “But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they choose the experience of someone like Sergio Pérez and he continues his career there.” Although Ricciardo has seemingly put an end to his Formula 1 career, Horner assumes that Pérez is still interested in a new challenge.
