Former team boss Günther Steiner predicts a challenging year for Red Bull in 2025. The Austrian racing team experienced a slump in 2024, with McLaren catching up in the constructors’ championship. If the Australian Grand Prix reveals that Red Bull does not have a competitive car in 2025, managing Max Verstappen will become ‘difficult’, according to Steiner.
Günther Steiner may no longer be the team boss of Haas for over a year, but he still has plenty to say about the current state of affairs in Formula 1. The Italian gained experience with drivers facing a tough season during his time with the American team. Steiner fears that Max Verstappen and Red Bull are also on the brink of a challenging year.
“If (Verstappen) does not have a good car that he can win with, it will be very difficult to manage him,” Steiner explains to CNN. “He will make his dissatisfaction known if the team is not performing. An angry Max is not a pleasant Max, but we all know he is a fantastic driver and he will do his best to win the races and the championship. But it will not be easy.”
Staying Calm
The former team boss is then asked what he would do if he were in Christian Horner’s shoes. “Stay calm, but don’t throw the toys out of the pram after two races if things don’t go your way,” Steiner shares the advice he would give to Verstappen. “If it’s not easy for us at the start of the season, we need to work hard to get where we want to be. Becoming impatient does not help the team.”
