Max Verstappen concluded the fight for the driver’s title in Las Vegas, but the battle for the constructor’s title continues in Qatar. McLaren and Ferrari are the main contenders to take the coveted title home. The upcoming race in Doha will play a crucial role in the final sprint. “The smallest detail often makes the difference,” says Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur.
Ferrari is only 24 points behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship, so the battle is far from over. If McLaren can score 21 more points than Ferrari in Qatar, the title will go to Woking for the first time since 1998. However, Ferrari team boss Vasseur warns his team not to get too caught up in the mathematical side of things.
“There are 59 points up for grabs, but this is not the time to start calculating,” Vasseur said in the official Ferrari preview. “All we can do is execute everything perfectly to ensure that Charles (Leclerc) and Carlos (Sainz) can squeeze every drop of performance out of the SF-24.
Alfa Romeo’s Vasseur Remains Hopeful for a Ferrari Title
Despite McLaren’s strong position in the constructors’ championship with the robust MCL38, Alfa Romeo’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, is not giving up hope on a first Ferrari title since 2008. “We have seen, especially in recent races, that Formula 1 as a whole is currently operating at a very high level, where the smallest detail often makes the difference,” explains the Frenchman. “It’s time for a final push in the upcoming two weekends, and our drivers, engineers, and everyone in the team, both on the track and in Maranello, are ready to put our best foot forward.”
McLaren Also Gears Up for the Final Races
On the other side of the Channel, in Woking, McLaren is also preparing for the last two races. Despite last year’s race in Qatar going well for the British racing team, with Piastri and Norris finishing behind Max Verstappen on the podium, the Australian warns that the team needs to be wary of Ferrari.
“We can’t just assume that the Qatar Grand Prix will again be good for us and that everything will be fine,” says Oscar Piastri. “I think we need to be vigilant and ensure that we work hard in the coming days to make a strong appearance. We aim to try and widen the gap with Ferrari.”
