Yuki Tsunoda will start in eighth place at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Sunday, seven places behind Max Verstappen: “But I will do everything I can to help him.”
The Japanese driver can be pleased with his P8, as team boss Christian Horner noted after the qualifying in Jeddah. However, Tsunoda himself would have preferred to be a bit higher. “I’m feeling more and more comfortable, a little more with each Grand Prix. But to squeeze out those last few tenths and hundredths, I need to try a different setup more often.”
A setup that is a bit more aggressive, he clarified to F1TV. “I’ve sometimes set up the car a bit too predictably, I need to look for something extra. That requires experience, which I don’t yet have with this car. The more I push, the more new things I experience in the car. That’s not always very pleasant, but I keep pushing and keep doing what I do.”
Points are realistic in Jeddah, according to Yuki Tsunoda. “That’s the goal. But also helping Max. If I can do anything in any way, I won’t hesitate. I just don’t know our strategy yet.”
