Turmoil at Red Bull: Jos Verstappen Withdraws from Legends Parade Amid Feud with Team Boss Christian Horner

June 28th, 2024, 9:34 AM

The relationship between Red Bull team boss Christian Horner and Jos Verstappen, father of three-time world champion Max Verstappen, is on the rocks. Jos Verstappen alleges that Horner has been working behind the scenes to prevent him from participating in the Legends Parade at the Austrian Red Bull Ring with the 2012 RB8. Verstappen is, to put it mildly, ‘not amused’ and has decided to withdraw from the event.

The relationship between Verstappen senior and Horner has been strained since the start of the season due to internal power struggles at Red Bull and allegations against Horner of sexual misconduct by a Red Bull employee.

Verstappen confirmed at the Red Bull Ring that he has withdrawn from the event. Horner allegedly tried to prevent his participation, leading Jos Verstappen to decide to withdraw. Other former drivers such as Gerhard Berger and David Coulthard will still participate.

The Ongoing Controversy

The latest chapter in the ongoing feud between Jos Verstappen and Christian Horner comes a day after Max Verstappen announced during the FIA press conference in Austria that he will continue to race for Red Bull next season. Verstappen has a contract until 2028, but could potentially exit under certain conditions. The uncertain sporting prospects from 2026 (when a new engine regulation comes into effect) and the strained relationships behind the scenes at Red Bull could prompt him to leave early. He remains at the top of the wish list for Mercedes.
