FORMULA 1 Magazine posed three pressing questions to a diverse group of experts in the paddock after Max Verstappen’s fourth world title, including Alexander Wurz. This led to some remarkable insights. Today, in part 4 of 4, we hear from the Austrian former driver and GPDA boss.
Was Max Verstappen’s title ever in jeopardy?
Wurz: “At one point, I was curious whether things might turn out differently for Verstappen than expected. But in the end, there was little reason to doubt whether Max would become champion. And to be clear: the title is 100 percent deserved. He was sensational at times this season.
Comparing Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel’s Four Titles with Verstappen’s
Wurz: “It’s difficult to judge. It’s not comparable, just as you can’t compare, for example, the performances of Prost. Different times.”
Will Lando Norris be Max Verstappen’s Biggest Challenger Next Year?
Wurz: “The fact is that there have been many drivers who have mainly taken points from each other. That may have been a bit of Verstappen’s luck. On the other hand, he may have forced that by performing to the maximum himself. Because he has certainly done that this year. In this way, he also scored many points when things were going against him in races and he struck with a win where necessary. All in all, it promises something for next season.”
