Max Verstappen is immensely grateful to Daniel Ricciardo for snatching a World Championship point from Lando Norris. Thanks to the Australian’s fastest lap in Singapore, Norris is not closing in as quickly on Verstappen in the drivers’ championship. As a result, the ‘fantastic’ Ricciardo can expect a generous Christmas gift from Verstappen.

Daniel Ricciardo managed to secure the fastest lap in the closing stages of the race in Singapore, causing Lando Norris to gain one less point in the race towards Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship. The Australian himself finished outside the top ten, which primarily benefits Verstappen, thanks to the actions of his former teammate.

Ricciardo joked after the race that he expects a very nice Christmas gift from Verstappen, should the Dutchman win the title by a single point. “He can ask for anything he wants,” Verstappen responds to the Australian’s jest, speaking to the media present. “Of course, I have to thank him for the fastest lap.”

A Remarkable Racer and Personality

The Visa RB driver hinted after the race that the Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit could be his last Formula 1 race. Max Verstappen also looks back emotionally at his time as Ricciardo’s teammate. “He is honestly a great guy. We have always had a great relationship. We had a sporting rivalry in the team,” Verstappen reflects.

“He will be remembered as a great driver, but also as a great person,” the Dutchman continues. “He has a great personality. It is rare for someone to dislike him. I think in the future, when I am no longer in F1, we will look back on all those years together and have a beer together.”
