Just like Dr. Helmut Marko, Christian Horner was impressed by Max Verstappen’s victory in Japan. “Phenomenal, he was flawless.” And so were the stewards, concluded the team boss of Red Bull Racing.
“A fantastic victory, Max was getting the maximum out of the car lap after lap. That was necessary to keep both McLarens behind him.” Yet, Horner was never much worried about the victory. “Because there was little overtaking anyway. Then you know something special has to happen. Or that Max has to make a mistake, and he doesn’t. He was good at every spot on the track.”
However, it almost went wrong when leaving the pit lane. Verstappen and Lando Norris came in at the same time, but Red Bull’s pit stop was slightly slower than McLaren’s. As a result, the duo headed towards the pit exit simultaneously. Norris ended up on the grass. “But he was never really past,” Horner observed. So, no penalty was given. “The stewards were also good, it was the right decision.”
