Williams Targets Carlos Sainz for 2025 Season Amidst Team Lineup Changes

June 11th, 2024, 9:50 AM

Williams is set to reappoint Alex Albon, leaving one seat open for the 2025 season. According to team boss James Vowles, Logan Sargeant is a potential candidate, although his current performance doesn’t necessarily make him a strong contender. Vowles has one driver he would prefer over all other candidates – Williams’ first choice is Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.

During the race weekend in Canada, James Vowles was asked about the future line-up in Grove. The transfer market is indeed in full swing. As the 2025 grid slowly takes shape, Williams still has one of the eight vacant seats to fill. Alex Albon recently signed a new contract with the British racing team, but who his future teammate will be remains unclear. For Vowles, there is a clear favorite.

Carlos Sainz: The First Choice

“Sainz is the first choice,” revealed the Williams team boss. “He is a race winner who has beaten drivers like Max Verstappen multiple times. He is smart, tactical, and incredibly fast.” Vowles believes his team is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for top drivers. “This is not the old Williams,” he explained. “The fact that Sainz is even on our list proves what we have to offer. We want to have the best line-up – after all, hundreds of millions are being invested to make this team successful again.”

Carlos Sainz’s Future Uncertain

Carlos Sainz, who according to the latest rumors must choose between Audi and Williams, remains secretive about his new contract. When confronted with the latest gossip from the paddock in Canada, he immediately laughed off all speculation. “I have plenty of good options,” he said. “I’ll see where the ship lands.”
