Yuki Tsunoda is eagerly anticipating the next race on the Formula 1 calendar: the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Japanese driver also predicts the challenges his team, Visa RB, will face during the weekend in the desert city. Liam Lawson is thrilled to be driving a race car down The Strip this year, after being sidelined last year.
The Grand Prix weekend in Las Vegas marks the start of the final triple header of the season. The drivers have had three weeks to prepare for the street race, and Yuki Tsunoda took full advantage of the break to move house. “The slightly longer break since Brazil means I’ve had time to move, and I’ve also had a few simulator sessions to prepare,” the Japanese driver explains in the Visa RB preview.
Las Vegas is located in the Mojave Desert, and it can get extremely cold in the gambling city at night. According to Tsunoda, this is where the biggest challenge for Visa RB lies. “It gets very cold at night, so one of the biggest challenges is keeping the brakes and tires in the right window during a long stint in the race. Last year there were many off-track activities involving the drivers, so I’m curious to see what the organizers have in store for us this time!”
‘Super thrilled to be racing’
Tsunoda’s teammate Liam Lawson is also looking forward to the street race. The New Zealander, like his teammate, predicts that the cold race will be challenging for Visa RB, but is happy to be in a race car this year. “I’m super thrilled to be racing under the lights. Last year I was there wishing I was driving, so it’s an exciting feeling going into this week, knowing that I’ll be in the car this time,” says the driver.
